Eyelash extension adhesive glue, known as eyelash glue or lash adhesive, is a specialized adhesive designed to secure fake eyelashes to the natural lash line. The main ingredient in lash glue for lash extensions is cyanoacrylate, a vital component that forms a strong bond with the lashes upon contact. However, within the cyanoacrylate family, there are various types of adhesives, and not all cyanoacrylate-based adhesives are suitable for use as eyelash extension glue. Next, we look at which specific types of cyanoacrylate adhesives are appropriate for lash extension applications.

Methyl Cyanoacrylate: This is a toxic substance. This type of cyanoacrylate is strictly classified and used only for industrial purposes. Methyl type is powerful and can dissolve the proteins- if used in eyelash extension, it leads to permanent sight loss. Methyl type should never be used in eyelash extension adhesive.

Ethyl Cyanoacrylate: Ethyl cyanoacrylate is the most common type of cyanoacrylate eyelash extension glue. It is often thicker than other lash adhesives, the drying time is fast, and the adhesion is strong, but the fume, odor, and irritation can be quite heavy for some lash clients and cause allergies to eyelash extensions.

Butyl Cyanoacrylate: Butyl-cyanoacrylate is a hypoallergenic and low-odor medical-grade instant adhesive. It is mainly used in medical and veterinary applications. Compared to Ethyl-Cyanoacrylate, Butyl-Cyanoacrylate has a slower drying speed and weaker adhesion. However, it generates less formaldehyde during the curing and has lower toxicity. It is ideal for customers with sensitive skin.

Octyl-Cyanoacrylate: Octyl-cyanoacrylate, like butyl-cyanoacrylate, is a major component of surgical glues. The difference is that Octyl is more flexible and dries slower than Butyl. Octyl ingredients are safe and suitable for sensitive customers.

Alkoxy Cyanoacrylate: Alkoxy-cyanoacrylate is an adhesive that is made to have extremely low odor and fume. This type of Cyanoacrylate is eight times more expensive than the Ethyl type. It is used as an ingredient in premium eyelash extension adhesives.

Methoxy-Cyanoacrylate: The methoxy type is the least irritating and almost odorless among all the cyanoacrylates. It has been specifically developed to improve the irritation and odor issues associated with Ethyl and Butyl-type glues. While its drying time is slower and adhesion is weaker compared to Ethyl and Butyl-type glues, methoxy Cyanoacrylates are the most gentle lash glues and are good for sensitive clients.

Hopson® founded in 2008, has a medical-grade dust-free production and filling workshop, a professional eyelash adhesive research and development laboratory, and rich development custom adhesive experience. In addition to the conventional eyelash glues on the market, we provide OEM custom service to meet your specific needs. We can provide you with customized solutions from the following aspects:

1. Gentle formula for sensitive eyes

Eyelash glues made with the main ingredients butyl, octyl, alkoxy, or methoxy are suitable for sensitive eyes.

2. Shelf life

Generally, strong lash glues last up to 6 months unopened, and the shelf-life of sensitive glue is much shorter- 3 months unopened.

Upon request, we can upgrade the formulation to extend the shelf life.

3. Setting Speed (drying speed)

Typically, setting the speed of sensitive glues is noticeably slower than regular lash adhesive. Sensitive glues have varying drying times, ranging from 3-8 seconds. It is important to inform your lash clients about this in advance. Due to the nature of sensitive glue, your application time may be longer than usual.

we can customize the formula to suit your desired drying speed.

4. Retention

Most sensitive adhesives are made with least to no ethyl-cyanoacrylate, and inevitably, their adhesion is much weaker than the “normal” glues. When all the right conditions are met (room/product condition, proper technique, client’s health & lash condition, and aftercare), extensions can last 3-4.5 weeks maximum.

For normal eyelash extension glue, we offer the latest advanced formula with incredible retention power that lasts up to 7- 8 weeks! This formula works perfectly for both Classic sets and Volume fans.

5. Color

Clear, White, and Black lash extension glue.

RFQ About Eyelash Extension Adhesive

Is eyelash glue waterproof?

Yes, most eyelash glue is designed to be waterproof, especially if it is intended for use in the extension or application of false eyelashes. This ensures that the lashes remain securely in place even after swimming or exposure to sweat and water.

Why does eyelash glue cause allergies and irritation?

The main reason is eyelash glue contains chemicals such as formaldehyde, latex, and cyanoacrylate. These substances can trigger redness, itching, and swelling in sensitive individuals. Immediate contact dermatitis may even occur, disrupting daily life with discomfort and potential eye damage. We recommend choosing hypoallergenic and free-latex eyelash glue.

Is there any lash extension glue that doesn’t contain Cyanoacrylate?

All types of eyelash extension adhesives use cyanoacrylate, which is the only one that can be hardened under certain circumstances. No other substitute glue can replace the retention and adhesion of the current eyelash extension adhesive. To avoid allergies and irritation, we recommend Hopson® safe hypoallergenic lash adhesive.

How long does lash adhesive glue last?

A freshly manufactured, unopened bottle of adhesive can last about 6 months. After opening, the adhesive has a shelf life of approximately 4 to 6 weeks. If you observe the adhesive becoming stringy and thick, it’s a good indication that it’s time to replace it with a new bottle.

Is eyelash extension glue the same as nail glue?

Nail glue is designed to provide a strong bond between press-on nails and natural nails, featuring higher cohesive strength than eyelash glue, which is meant for the delicate area around the eyes. Using nail glue on eyelashes is highly dangerous and can lead to serious health issues, including irritation, allergic reactions, and potentially permanent damage to the eyes and surrounding skin. Therefore, nail glue isn’t suitable for use on eyelashes, as it is difficult to remove and can contain harsh chemicals that harm your eyes.

Can I leave eyelash glue on overnight?

No, it is not recommended to leave eyelash glue on overnight. Although some high-quality eyelash glues may be safe for short-term wear, wearing them for extended periods, including overnight, can cause eye discomfort, irritation, infection, or other health issues.

What is the difference between black eyelash glue and clear eyelash glue?

Black glue is perfect for clients with naturally darker or thicker lashes. On the other hand, clear glue is ideal for clients with naturally lighter, finer lashes, or colourful lash looks.

How to remove lash glue?

It can be easily removed using makeup remover, lash glue dissolver, oil, micellar water, witch hazel, etc.

  1. Take a Hot Shower. A hot shower works wonders for loosening eyelash extensions.
  2. Steam Your Face. This is the shortened technique of the hot shower method.
  3. Use a Lash Glue Dissolver.
  4. Use an Oil-Based Cleanser.

How to Store Lash Glue?

9 Tips to Store Lash Glue

Lash adhesives are sensitive to heat, moisture, humidity, and other weather conditions. Please look at our tips for properly storing eyelash extension glue.

  1. Place the lash adhesive in a dry, cool place. keep it at room temperature to avoid hot/cold shocks.
  2. Do not store the eyelash glue together with the primer.
  3. To ensure the eyelash glue ingredients are mixed well, shake it for two to three minutes before using it.
  4. It’s best to isolate the natural lash before dipping the extension in the lash bond adhesive.
  5. Don’t brush the adhesive onto the lash line, it can cause adverse reactions if it comes into contact with the eyes or skin.
  6. Please do not use too much or too little glue when you make eyelash extensions.
  7. After use, don’t touch the water within 24 hours.
  8. Sometimes lash adhesives create a whitish tint on the lashes called ‘frosting’ or ‘blooming’. It’s a result of the adhesive drying out ahead of its time. You can prevent it by misting or fanning the lashes during the application or skipping out on the primer altogether.
  9. Keep the reach of children away.

If your adhesive appears to have thickened or cured, it is nearing its expiration date and is not recommended.
