Plastic pipe glue, also known as “plastic pipe cement” or “plumber pipe glue”, commonly used plastic pipe glue includes PVC cement and CPVC cement.

PVC solvent cement is a kind of adhesive usually used to join PVC, UPVC, and ABS pipes and fittings. PVC solvent is a fast-acting adhesive that chemically bonds the PVC surfaces together.

CPVC solvent cement, or “CPVC glue,” forms a chemical bond between pipes and fittings. When applied to pipe and fittings, the cement melts a thin layer that solidifies in the second shell after being put together, forming a seamless, waterproof seal. This CPVC pipe glue is usually used to join PVC, CPVC, and ABS pipes and fittings.

As a professional PVC plastic pipe cement manufacturer, Hopson® offers a range of professional PVC and CPVC solvent cement, PVC primers, and OEM customization services designed to provide a strong and durable bond between PVC, UPVC, ABS, and CPVC pipes and fittings. Whether you’re working on a plumbing system, a garden irrigation project, or any other application requiring PVC or CPVC bonding, Hopson®’s line of solvent cement and primers has you covered.

PVC solvent cement, also known as “PVC drain pipe cement” is a one-component solvent-based adhesive with vinyl polymer as the main raw material. It is a high-strength PVC drain pipe with special glue. It is generally used to connect PVC pipes in drainage systems, sewers, sewage treatment systems, etc.

PVC Solvent Cement Instructions

Some of the features of PVC Solvent cement are as follows:

  • Low Odor.
  • Flexible.
  • Water Resistant.
  • Chemical Bonding.
  • Easy to Use.
  • Fast Acting and Permanent Solvent Weld.
  • Heat Resistant. PVC solvent cement is suitable for use in hot or cold temperatures.
  • Hopson® supplies regular, medium, heavy, and extra heavy-duty PVC solvent cement. They are formulated for PVC pipe in virtually every schedule and size.
  • Recommended for pressure pipe, conduit, irrigation, industrial piping, sewer, and DWV systems.

You can use PVC glue for a range of different plumbing applications, including: Fixing leaks and filling small gaps. Joining PVC pipes and fittings.

After you join the pipes you need to hold them together for at least 30 seconds so the cement can harden.

It will take another 15 minutes for the joint to set to the point that it can withstand water pressure and another two hours to cure fully.

How To Open PVC Sement

Grasp the can of PVC solvent cement in one hand. Hold the can firmly, so that it does not turn when removing the cap. Grasp the cap with your free hand and turn it counterclockwise to remove it from the can.

If you find it difficult to open the can by hand, consider using a corkscrew designed for PVC cement. This tool can make the process easier and ensure you can access the cement without hassle.

CPVC solvent cement, often called “CPVC glue for water supply pipe,” is specially formulated for connecting pipes within a water supply system.

This fully transparent CPVC adhesive addresses the challenges of bonding transparent or white CPVC pipes, offering a strong and durable connection. It effectively resolves bonding issues between plastics, metals, and non-metals, making it a versatile solution for various applications.

CPVC Solvent Cement Instructions

Some of the features of CPVC Solvent cement are as follows:

  • Easy installation and easy handling.
  • The product is highly durable and easy to use.
  • Low-VOC formula reduces solvent emissions for a better working environment.
  • Industrial-grade CPVC solvent cement for use on industrial piping systems requiring chemical resistance to caustics.
  • Orange cement for use on all schedules and classes of CPVC pipe and fittings up to 6-Inch diameter with interference fit.
  • Heavy-bodied, high-strength orange PVC cement applies smoothly and has a medium set time ideal for warm-weather applications.
  • CPVC Solvent Cement is well-known for its exceptional resistance to chemicals, ability to withstand high temperatures, and appropriateness for use in both hot and cold water distribution systems. Solvent cement is commonly available in many colors, with yellow being a popular option.

This CPVC adhesive is used to create a permanent joint between two components, such as, between a pipe and a fitting. The adhesive is made out of resin which is ideal for joining component width in the range of ½ – 2 inches in diameter.

It can be seen that under the same pressure, the CPVC glue on the same size pipe at different temperatures, and the cure time is different. The higher the temperature, the shorter the cure time.

PVC primer is typically applied to the joint connections between PVC pipes. PVC primer is so effective that once applied, it sets off a chemical reaction that softens the PVC pipe, making it ready for the PVC cement.

This clear PVC primer accomplishes two things. First, it will clean the pipe and fittings of dirt, oil, grease, and other foreign matter. If the plastic is dirty before making a connection, it will be more difficult for the cement to bond the pipe and fit together. Second, clear PVC primer for plumbing will soften the plastic.
